Exodus 17:6-8
International Standard Version
6 I’ll be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. You are to strike the rock and water will come out of it, so the people can drink.” Moses did this in front of the elders of Israel.
7 He named the place Massah[a] and Meribah,[b] because the Israelis quarreled and tested the Lord by saying: “Is the Lord really among us or not?”
The Amalekites Fight the Israelis
8 After this, the Amalekites came and fought with the Israelis at Rephidim.

Exodus 17:6-8
New International Version
6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(A) Strike(B) the rock, and water(C) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](D) and Meribah[b](E) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

8 The Amalekites(F) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(G)
