^9 (A)Six days you shall labor and do all your work, ¹⁰ but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it ^(B)you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who ^[a]stays with you. ^11 (C)For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

¹² “^(D)Honor your father and your mother, that your ^(E)days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

¹³ “^(F)You shall not murder.

¹⁴ “^(G)You shall not commit adultery.

¹⁵ “^(H)You shall not steal.

¹⁶ “^(I)You shall not bear false witness against your ^(J)neighbor.

¹⁷ “^(K)You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; ^(L)you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

^18 (M)All the people perceived the ^[b]thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. ^19 (N)Then they said to Moses, “Speak ^[c]to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak ^[d]to us, or we will die.” ²⁰ Moses said to the people, “^(O)Do not be afraid; for God has come in order ^(P)to test you, and in order that ^(Q)the fear of Him may ^[e]remain with you, so that you may not sin.” ²¹ So the people stood at a distance, while Moses approached ^(R)the thick cloud where God was.

²² Then the Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘You yourselves have seen that ^(S)I have spoken ^[f]to you from heaven. ^23 (T)You shall not make other gods besides Me; ^(U)gods of silver or gods of gold, you shall not make for yourselves. ²⁴ You shall make ^(V)an altar of earth for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your ^(W)burnt offerings and your ^(X)peace offerings, ^(Y)your sheep and your oxen; in every place ^(Z)where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you. ²⁵ If you make an altar of stone for Me, ^(AA)you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it. ²⁶ And you shall not go up by steps to My altar, so that ^(AB)your nakedness will not be exposed on it.’

¹² “^(A)Six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you shall cease from labor so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave, as well as ^[a]your stranger, may refresh themselves.

^15 (A)For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a ^(B)sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord; ^(C)whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death.

¹⁶ ‘^(C)Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, ^(D)that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which the Lord your God gives you.

Moses Interceded

²² “These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud and of the thick gloom, with a great voice, and He added no more. ^(J)He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. ²³ And when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. ²⁴ You said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with man, yet he lives. ^25 (K)Now then why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer, then we will die. ²⁶ For ^(L)who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? ^27 [b]Go near and hear all that the Lord our God says; then speak to us all that the Lord our God speaks to you, and we will hear and do it.’

²⁸ “The Lord heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, ^(M)and the Lord said to me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken. ^29 (N)Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and ^(O)keep all My commandments always, that ^(P)it may be well with them and with their sons forever! ³⁰ Go, say to them, “Return to your tents.” ^31 (Q)But as for you, stand here by Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which you shall teach them, that they may observe them in the land which I give them to possess.’ ³² So you shall observe to do just as the Lord your God has commanded you; ^(R)you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left. ^33 (S)You shall walk in all the way which the Lord your God has commanded you, ^(T)that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.
