⁴ “^(A)If you encounter your enemy’s ox or his donkey wandering away, you must return it to him. ^5 (B)If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying helpless under its load, you shall not leave it helpless for ^[a]its owner; you must arrange the load with him.

²² But he ^[a]answered, “You shall not ^[b]kill them. Would you ^[c](A)kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? ^(B)Set bread and water before them, so that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.”

¹⁵ Then ^(A)the men who were designated by name got up, took the captives, and they clothed all their naked people from the spoils; they gave them clothes and sandals, fed them and ^(B)gave them drink, anointed them with oil, led all their feeble ones on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, ^(C)the city of palm trees, to their brothers; then they returned to Samaria.

⁴⁴ But I say to you, ^(A)love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

²⁰ “^(A)But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
