² There the angel of the Lord^(A) appeared to him in flames of fire^(B) from within a bush.^(C) Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.

¹⁸ Mount Sinai was covered with smoke,^(A) because the Lord descended on it in fire.^(B) The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace,^(C) and the whole mountain^[a] trembled^(D) violently.

³⁶ From heaven he made you hear his voice^(A) to discipline^(B) you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.
