⁶ Then Yahweh passed by in front of him and called out, “Yahweh, Yahweh God, ^(A)compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and ^[a]truth;

¹⁸ ‘^(A)Yahweh is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but ^(B)He will by no means clear the guilty, ^(C)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children ^[a]to the third and the fourth generations.’

² And he ^(A)prayed to Yahweh and said, “Ah! O Yahweh, was not this my word to myself while I was still in my own land? Therefore I went ahead to ^(B)flee to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a ^(C)gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning evil.

¹¹ Behold, we count those ^(A)blessed who persevere. You have heard of ^(B)the ^[a]perseverance of Job and have seen ^(C)the ^[b]outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that ^(D)the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.
