⁶ Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, ^(A)compassionate and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in faithfulness and ^[a]truth; ⁷ who ^(B)keeps faithfulness for thousands, who forgives wrongdoing, violation of His Law, and sin; yet He ^(C)will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, ^(D)inflicting the ^[b]punishment of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

¹⁸ ‘^(A)The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in mercy, forgiving wrongdoing and violation of His Law; but ^(B)He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, ^(C)inflicting the ^[a]punishment of the fathers on the children ^[b]to the third and the fourth generations.’

³³ Also, your sons will be shepherds in the wilderness for ^(A)forty years, and they will ^[a]suffer for your unfaithfulness, until your bodies perish in the wilderness.

⁹ You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, ^(A)inflicting the ^[a]punishment of the fathers on the children, ^[b]even on the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, ¹⁰ but ^(B)showing ^[c]favor to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

²⁹ “Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; I will bring the disaster upon his house ^(A)in his son’s days.”
