⁶ Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at ^(A)Horeb; and ^(B)you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. ⁷ Then he named the place ^[a](C)Massah and ^[b](D)Meribah because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they ^(E)tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us, or not?”

¹³ Those were called the waters of ^[a](A)Meribah, ^[b]because the sons of Israel argued with the Lord, and He proved Himself holy among them.
