¹⁰ but the ^(A)seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the ^(B)sojourner who is within your gates.

¹⁹ As soon as it ^(A)began to grow dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut and gave orders that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. And I stationed some of my servants at the gates, that no load might be brought in on the Sabbath day.

²¹ Thus says the Lord: Take care for the sake of your lives, and ^(A)do not bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. ²² And do not carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath ^(B)or do any work, but ^(C)keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers.

²³ If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, ^(A)are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man's whole body well?

¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not ^(A)from God, ^(B)for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, ^(C)“How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And ^(D)there was a division among them.

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, ^(A)“Look, your disciples are doing ^(B)what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”

²⁴ And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, ^(A)why are they doing ^(B)what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”

⁴ And he said to them, ^(A)“Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

² But some of the Pharisees said, ^(A)“Why are you doing ^(B)what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?”

¹⁴ But ^(A)the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus ^(B)had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, ^(C)“There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”
