¹⁶ The Lord said to Moses, “You are about to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon commit adultery with the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will abandon Me and break the covenant^(A) I have made with them.

⁵ “I will come to you in judgment, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the widow and the fatherless, and cheat the wage earner; and against those who deny justice to the foreigner.^(A) They do not fear Me,”^(B) says the Lord of Hosts.

Adultery in the Heart

²⁷ “You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery.^{(A)[a] 28} But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.^(B)

³² But I tell you, everyone who divorces his wife, except in a case of sexual immorality,^[a] causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.^(A)

⁹ And I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”^[a](A)
