¹⁷ And you shall take in your hand ^(A)this staff, ^(B)with which you shall perform the signs.”

²⁰ So Moses took his wife and his ^(A)sons and mounted them on a donkey, and returned to the land of Egypt. Moses also took the ^(B)staff of God in his hand.

¹⁹ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and ^(A)extend your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their ^[a]streams, over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, so that they may become blood; and there will be blood through all the land of Egypt, both in containers of wood and in containers of stone.’”

^21 (A)Then Moses reached out with his hand over the sea; and the Lord ^[a]swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into ^(B)dry land, and ^(C)the waters were divided.

²⁶ Then the Lord said to Moses, “^(A)Reach out with your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen.”

⁵ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of ^(A)the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which ^(B)you struck the Nile, and go. ⁶ Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at ^(C)Horeb; and ^(D)you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁹ So Moses said to ^(A)Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with ^(B)the staff of God in my hand.”

The Waters of Meribah

⁸ “Take ^(A)the staff; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it shall yield its water. So you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and have the congregation and their livestock drink.”

⁹ So Moses took the staff ^(B)from before the Lord, just as He had commanded him;

¹¹ Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff; and ^(A)water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their livestock drank.

²⁶ The Lord of armies will ^(A)wield a whip against him like the defeat of ^(B)Midian at the rock of Oreb; and His ^(C)staff will be over the sea, and He will lift it up ^(D)the way He did in Egypt.
