¹⁰ So ^(A)the taskmasters of the people and their foremen went out and spoke to the people, saying, “Thus says Pharaoh, ‘I am not going to give you any straw.

^21 (A)And they said to them, “^(B)May Yahweh look upon you and judge, for you have ^(C)made ^[a]us a foul smell in Pharaoh’s sight and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

²⁰ But Yahweh has taken you and brought you out of ^(A)the iron furnace, from Egypt, to ^(B)be a people for His own inheritance, as today.

¹⁵ He led you through ^(A)the great and fearsome wilderness, with its ^(B)fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He ^(C)brought water for you out of the rock of flint.

²² Then they will ^(A)look to the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and they will be ^(B)banished into thick darkness.

⁴ which I commanded your fathers in the ^(A)day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the ^(B)iron furnace, saying, ‘^(C)Listen to My voice, and ^[a]do according to all which I command you; so you shall be ^(D)My people, and I will be your God,’
