²³ So Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail.^(A) Lightning struck the earth, and the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud on the mountain, and a loud trumpet sound, so that all the people in the camp shuddered.

¹⁹ As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder.^(A)

The People’s Reaction

¹⁸ All the people witnessed^[a] the thunder and lightning, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain surrounded by smoke. When the people saw it^[b] they trembled and stood at a distance.^(A)

¹⁸ Samuel called on the Lord, and on that day the Lord sent thunder and rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.^(A)

⁵ You will flee by My mountain valley,^[a] for the valley of the mountains will extend to Azal. You will flee as you fled^[b] from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah.^(A) Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones with Him.^[c](B)

⁵ Flashes of lightning and rumblings of thunder came from the throne. Seven fiery torches were burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God.^(A)
