⁴ But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that nothing of all that the Israelites own will die.”

⁴ “Pass throughout the city of Jerusalem,” the Lord said to him, “and put a mark on the foreheads^(A) of the men who sigh and groan^(B) over all the detestable practices committed in it.”

⁶ Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, as well as the older women and little children,^(A) but do not come near anyone who has the mark.^(B) Now begin at My sanctuary.”^(C) So they began with the elders who were in front of the temple.

¹⁶ And he requires everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark^[a] on his right hand or on his forehead,^{(A) 17} so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark: the beast’s name or the number of his name.
