⁷ “‘But there was another great eagle with powerful wings and full plumage. The vine now sent out its roots toward him from the plot where it was planted and stretched out its branches to him for water.^(A)

²⁷ So I will put a stop^(A) to the lewdness and prostitution you began in Egypt. You will not look on these things with longing or remember Egypt anymore.

²⁰ It was because of the Lord’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust^(A) them from his presence.^(B)

Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

¹³ He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath^(A) in God’s name. He became stiff-necked^(B) and hardened his heart and would not turn to the Lord, the God of Israel.

⁵ Pharaoh’s army had marched out of Egypt,^(A) and when the Babylonians^[a] who were besieging Jerusalem heard the report about them, they withdrew^(B) from Jerusalem.^(C)

⁶ Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet: ⁷ “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire^(D) of me, ‘Pharaoh’s army, which has marched^(E) out to support you, will go back to its own land, to Egypt.^(F)
