22 But I did not want the people of other nations to insult my name. They had seen me bring Israel's people out of Egypt. So I could not destroy my people. 23 There in the wilderness I made a strong promise to them. I promised to send them to many different places where they would live among other nations. 24 This was because they had not obeyed my laws and my commands. They had not obeyed my rules about Sabbath days. Instead, they worshipped the same idols that their ancestors worshipped.

22 But I withheld(A) my hand, and for the sake of my name(B) I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out. 23 Also with uplifted hand I swore to them in the wilderness that I would disperse them among the nations and scatter(C) them through the countries, 24 because they had not obeyed my laws but had rejected my decrees(D) and desecrated my Sabbaths,(E) and their eyes lusted after(F) their parents’ idols.(G)
