22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, (A)“The hand of our God is for good on (B)all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.” 23 So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.

24 Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests: (C)Sherebiah, (D)Hashabiah, and ten of their kinsmen with them.

22 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers(A) and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone(B) who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.(C)” 23 So we fasted(D) and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
24 Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests, namely, Sherebiah,(E) Hashabiah and ten of their brothers,
