11 that were given to us by your servants the prophets. They said the land you are giving us is full of sinful and wicked people, who never stop doing disgusting things.[a] 12 (A) And we were warned not to let our daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters.

Your prophets also told us never to help those foreigners or even let them live in peace. You wanted us to become strong and to enjoy the good things in the land, then someday to leave it to our children forever.

13 You punished us because of our terrible sins. But you did not punish us nearly as much as we deserve, and you have brought some of us back home.

11 you gave through your servants the prophets when you said: ‘The land you are entering(A) to possess is a land polluted(B) by the corruption of its peoples. By their detestable practices(C) they have filled it with their impurity from one end to the other. 12 Therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them(D) at any time, that you may be strong(E) and eat the good things(F) of the land and leave it to your children as an everlasting inheritance.’(G)

13 “What has happened to us is a result of our evil(H) deeds and our great guilt, and yet, our God, you have punished us less than our sins deserved(I) and have given us a remnant like this.
