Temple Work Resumed

5 When the prophets, ^(A)Haggai the prophet and ^(B)Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them,

¹⁴ And ^(A)the elders of the Jews ^[a]were successful in building through the prophecy of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And ^[b]they finished building following the command of the God of Israel and the decree ^(B)of Cyrus, ^(C)Darius, and ^(D)Artaxerxes king of Persia.

³ Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

¹² Then ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and ^(B)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, ^(C)obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, just as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people ^[a](D)showed reverence for the Lord. ¹³ Then Haggai, the ^(E)messenger of the Lord, spoke ^[b]by the commission of the Lord to the people, saying, “‘^(F)I am with you,’ declares the Lord.”

The Builders Encouraged

2 On the twenty-first of the seventh month, the word of the Lord came by ^(A)Haggai the prophet, saying,

¹⁰ On the ^(A)twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet, saying,

²⁰ Then the word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai on the ^(A)twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,
