¹⁰ so that they may offer acceptable sacrifices to the God of heaven and ^(A)pray for the lives of the king and his sons.

²³ Whatever is ^[a]commanded by the God of heaven, it shall be done with zeal for the house of the God of heaven, ^(A)so that there will not be wrath against the kingdom of the king and his sons.

Daniel Interprets the Vision

¹⁹ “Then Daniel, whose name is Belteshazzar, was appalled for a while as his ^(A)thoughts alarmed him. The king responded and said, ‘Belteshazzar, do not ^(B)let the dream or its interpretation alarm you.’ Belteshazzar replied, ‘^(C)My lord, if only the dream applied to those who hate you, and its interpretation to ^(D)your adversaries!

A Call to Prayer

2 First of all, then, I urge that ^(A)requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, ^2 (B)for kings and all who are in ^[a]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and ^[b]dignity.
