²³His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh,^(A) but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.^(B)

³³They answered him, ^(A)“We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

³³They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants^(A) and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
