⁴ “Hear, O Israel: ^(A)The Lord our God, the Lord is one.^{[a] 5} You ^(B)shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. ⁶ And ^(C)these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. ^7 (D)You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. ^8 (E)You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. ^9 (F)You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Lust

^27 (A)“You have heard that it was said, ^(B)‘You shall not commit adultery.’ ²⁸ But I say to you that ^(C)everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

^10 (A)“One who is ^(B)faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.

³ But ^(A)sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness ^(B)must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. ⁴ Let there be ^(C)no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, ^(D)which are out of place, but instead ^(E)let there be thanksgiving. ⁵ For you may be sure of this, that ^(F)everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (^(G)that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. ^6 (H)Let no one ^(I)deceive you with empty words, for because of these things ^(J)the wrath of God comes upon ^(K)the sons of disobedience. ⁷ Therefore ^(L)do not become partners with them; ⁸ for ^(M)at one time you were ^(N)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. ^(O)Walk as children of light ⁹ (for ^(P)the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), ¹⁰ and ^(Q)try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. ^11 (R)Take no part in the ^(S)unfruitful ^(T)works of darkness, but instead ^(U)expose them. ¹² For ^(V)it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. ¹³ But when ^(W)anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,

God's Wrath on Unrighteousness

¹⁸ For ^(A)the wrath of God ^(B)is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. ¹⁹ For what can be ^(C)known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. ²⁰ For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, ^(D)have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,^[a] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. ²¹ For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they ^(E)became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. ^22 (F)Claiming to be wise, they became fools, ²³ and ^(G)exchanged the glory of ^(H)the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

²⁴ Therefore ^(I)God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to ^(J)the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, ²⁵ because they exchanged the truth about God for ^(K)a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, ^(L)who is blessed forever! Amen.

²⁶ For this reason ^(M)God gave them up to ^(N)dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; ²⁷ and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, ^(O)men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

²⁸ And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, ^(P)God gave them up to ^(Q)a debased mind to do ^(R)what ought not to be done. ²⁹ They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, ³⁰ slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, ³¹ foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. ³² Though they know ^(S)God's righteous decree that those who practice such things ^(T)deserve to die, they not only do them but ^(U)give approval to those who practice them.

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous^[a] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: ^(A)neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,^{[b] 10} nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

^18 (A)Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin^[a] a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person ^(B)sins against his own body. ¹⁹ Or ^(C)do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? ^(D)You are not your own, ^20 (E)for you were bought with a price. ^(F)So glorify God in your body.
