⁹ “I now establish my covenant with you^(A) and with your descendants after you ¹⁰ and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. ¹¹ I establish my covenant^(B) with you:^(C) Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.^(D)”

¹² And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant^(E) I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:^{(F) 13} I have set my rainbow^(G) in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. ¹⁴ Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow^(H) appears in the clouds, ¹⁵ I will remember my covenant^(I) between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.^{(J) 16} Whenever the rainbow^(K) appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant^(L) between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

⁹ Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant,^(A) you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.^{(B) 10} This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.^{(C) 11} You are to undergo circumcision,^(D) and it will be the sign of the covenant^(E) between me and you. ¹² For the generations to come^(F) every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised,^(G) including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. ¹³ Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised.^(H) My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant.^(I)

¹⁴ “This is a day you are to commemorate;^(A) for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.^{(B) 15} For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast.^(C) On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off^(D) from Israel. ¹⁶ On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work^(E) at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat; that is all you may do.

¹⁷ “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread,^(F) because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt.^(G) Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.^(H)

⁶ These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.^{(A) 7} Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.^(B)

¹² be careful that you do not forget^(A) the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

⁴ So Joshua called together the twelve men^(A) he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, ⁵ and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan.^(B) Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, ⁶ to serve as a sign^(C) among you. In the future, when your children^(D) ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’^{(E) 7} tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off^(F) before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial^(G) to the people of Israel forever.”
