⁸ Now Cush ^[a]was the father of Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. ⁹ He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Yahweh.”

^2 (A)Now it happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh, that ^(B)Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem ³ with 1,200 chariots and 60,000 horsemen. And the people who came with him from Egypt were without number: ^(C)the Lubim, the Sukkiim and the Ethiopians. ⁴ And he captured ^(D)the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.

⁹ Then Zerah the Ethiopian ^(A)went out against them with a military force of one million men and 300 chariots, and he came to ^(B)Mareshah.

⁸ Were not ^(A)the Ethiopians and the Lubim ^(B)a vast military force with an exceedingly vast number of chariots and horsemen? Yet ^(C)because you leaned on Yahweh, He gave them into your hand.
