⁸ Now Cush ^[a]became the father of Nimrod; he ^[b]became a mighty one on the earth. ⁹ He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.”

^2 (A)And it came about in King Rehoboam’s fifth year, because they had been unfaithful to the Lord, that ^(B)Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem ³ with 1,200 chariots and 60,000 horsemen. And the people who came with him from Egypt were without number: ^(C)the Lubim, the Sukkiim and the Ethiopians. ⁴ He captured ^(D)the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.

⁹ Now Zerah the Ethiopian ^(A)came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and he came to ^(B)Mareshah.

⁸ Were not ^(A)the Ethiopians and the Lubim ^(B)an immense army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet ^(C)because you relied on the Lord, He delivered them into your hand.
