²¹ So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep;^(A) and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs^[a] and then closed up the place with flesh.

¹² As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep,^(A) and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.

²¹ But Jael,^(A) Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep,^(B) exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.^(C)

¹⁸ While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.^(A) Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.^(B)
