⁸ Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden;^(A) and there he put the man he had formed.

¹⁶ I made the nations tremble^(A) at the sound of its fall when I brought it down to the realm of the dead to be with those who go down to the pit. Then all the trees^(B) of Eden,^(C) the choicest and best of Lebanon, the well-watered trees, were consoled^(D) in the earth below.^(E)

¹⁸ “‘Which of the trees of Eden can be compared with you in splendor and majesty? Yet you, too, will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth below; you will lie among the uncircumcised,^(A) with those killed by the sword.

“‘This is Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

³⁵ They will say, “This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden;^(A) the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.^(B)”
