10 And Abraham reached out with his hand and took the knife to [a]slaughter his son. 11 But (A)the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not reach out your hand against the boy, and do not do anything to him; for now (B)I know that you [b]fear God, since you have not withheld (C)your son, your only son, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in the place of his son. 14 And Abraham named that place [c]The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “On the mountain of the Lord (D)it will [d]be provided.”

15 Then the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, 16 and said, “(E)By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly (F)multiply your [e]seed as the stars of the heavens and as (G)the sand, which is on the seashore; and (H)your [f]seed shall possess the gate of [g]their enemies. 18 And (I)in your [h]seed all the nations of the earth shall [i]be blessed, because you have (J)obeyed My voice.”

10 Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to [a]kill his son.(A) 11 But the [b]Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He answered, “Here I am.” 12 The Lord said, “Do not reach out [with the knife in] your hand against the boy, and do nothing to [harm] him; for now I know that you fear God [with reverence and profound respect], since you have not withheld from Me your son, your only son [of promise].” 13 Then Abraham looked up and glanced around, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering (ascending sacrifice) instead of his son. 14 So Abraham named that place [c]The Lord Will Provide. And it is said to this day, “On the mountain of the Lord it [d]will be seen and provided.”

15 The [e]Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, “By Myself (on the basis of Who I Am) I have sworn [an oath], declares the Lord, that since you have done this thing and have not withheld [from Me] your son, your only son [of promise], 17 indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies [as conquerors].(B) 18 Through your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have heard and obeyed My voice.”(C)
