Genesis 24:7-9

International Standard Version

⁷“The Lord God of heaven, who brought me from my father’s house and from my family’s land, who spoke to me and promised me ‘I will give this land to your descendants,’ will send his angel ahead of you, and you are to acquire a wife for my son from there. ⁸If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you’ll be free from this oath to me. Just don’t take my son back there!” ⁹So the servant made a solemn oath^[a] to his master Abraham regarding this matter.

⁷“The Lord, the God of heaven,^(A) who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land^(B) and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring^[a]^(C) I will give this land’^(D)—he will send his angel before you^(E) so that you can get a wife for my son from there. ⁸If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath^(F) of mine. Only do not take my son back there.”^(G) ⁹So the servant put his hand under the thigh^(H) of his master^(I) Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.
