¹⁷ And he said to the man, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘Do not eat from it’:

Judgment Decreed

⁵ When the Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time,^(A)

¹¹ Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with wickedness.^{[a] 12} God saw how corrupt the earth was, for every creature had corrupted its way on the earth.^(A)

³³ “Do not defile the land where you live, for bloodshed defiles the land,^(A) and there can be no atonement for the land because of the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of the person who shed it.
