^4 (A)The serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die!

¹³ Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” And the woman said, “^(A)The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

^44 (A)You are of ^(B)your father the devil, and ^(C)you want to do the desires of your father. ^(D)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because ^(E)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells ^[a]a lie, he ^(F)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of ^[b]lies.

⁵ For this reason, ^(A)when I could no longer endure it, I also ^(B)sent to ^[a]find out about your faith, for fear that ^(C)the tempter might have tempted you, and ^(D)our labor would be for nothing.

¹⁴ And it was not Adam who was deceived, but ^(A)the woman was ^[a]deceived and ^[b]became a wrongdoer.
