³ Jacob sent messengers^(A) ahead of him to his brother Esau^(B) in the land of Seir,^(C) the country of Edom.^(D)

⁹ This is the account^(D) of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites^(E) in the hill country of Seir.

²⁰ These were the sons of Seir the Horite,^(A) who were living in the region:

¹² Horites^(A) used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did^(B) in the land the Lord gave them as their possession.)

² He said:

² “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir;^(A) prophesy against it ³ and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand^(B) against you and make you a desolate waste.^(C)

⁷ I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste^(A) and cut off from it all who come and go.^(B)

¹⁵ Because you rejoiced^(A) when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir,^(B) you and all of Edom.^(C) Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”
