²⁸ They took their flocks and their herds, their donkeys, and whatever was in the city and in the field.

²⁹ All their wealth, all their little ones and their wives, all that was in the houses, they captured and made their prey.

²⁷ For it would be better for us to be captured by them.^[a] We shall indeed become slaves, but our lives will be spared, and we shall not witness our little ones dying before our eyes and our wives and children drawing their last breath.

⁷⁴ Because of our sins and the sins of our ancestors, we with our kindred and our kings and our priests were given over to the kings of the earth, to the sword and exile and plundering, in shame until this day.^(A)
