7 And when the sons of Jacob were come out of the field and heard it, it grieved the men, and they were very angry, because he had wrought [a]villany in Israel, in that he had lain with Jacob’s daughter: [b]which thing ought not to be done.
8 And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son: Shechem longeth for your daughter, [c]give her him to wife, I pray you.
9 So make affinity with us, give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.

7 Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked(A) and furious,(B) because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in[a] Israel(C) by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.(D)
8 But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.(E) 9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.(F)
