And when the sons of Jacob were come out of the field and heard it, it grieved the men, and they were very angry, because he had wrought [a]villany in Israel, in that he had lain with Jacob’s daughter: [b]which thing ought not to be done.

And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son: Shechem longeth for your daughter, [c]give her him to wife, I pray you.

So make affinity with us, give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.

Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked(A) and furious,(B) because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in[a] Israel(C) by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.(D)

But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.(E) Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.(F)
