7 And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. And the men were distressed and very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by having sexual relations with the daughter of Jacob—something that[a] should not be done. 8 And Hamor spoke with them saying, “Shechem my son is in love with[b] your daughter. Please give her to him for a wife. 9 Make marriages with us. Give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.

7 Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked(A) and furious,(B) because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in[a] Israel(C) by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.(D)
8 But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.(E) 9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.(F)
