Genesis 38:27-29

27 And it happened that at the time she gave birth that, behold, twins were in her womb. 28 And it happened that at her labor one child put out a hand. And the midwife took it and tied a crimson thread on his hand saying, “This one came out first.” 29 Then his hand drew back and, behold, his brother came out, and she said, “What a breach you have made for yourself!” And she called his name Perez.

New International Version
27 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.(A) 28 As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife(B) took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist(C) and said, “This one came out first.” 29 But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out,(D) and she said, “So this is how you have broken out!” And he was named Perez.[a](E)
