⁸And Cain said to Abel his brother: Let us go forth abroad. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and slew him.

⁹And the Lord said to Cain: Where is thy brother Abel? And he answered, I know not: am I my brother's keeper?

¹⁰And he said to him: What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth to me from the earth.

Genesis 4:8-10

New International Version

⁸Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”^[a] While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.^(A)

⁹Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”^(B)

“I don’t know,^(C)” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

¹⁰The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.^(D)
