¹⁵ When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone,^(A) all Egypt came to Joseph^(B) and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes?^(C) Our money is all gone.”

¹⁹ Why should we perish before your eyes^(A)—we and our land as well? Buy us and our land in exchange for food,^(B) and we with our land will be in bondage to Pharaoh.^(C) Give us seed so that we may live and not die,^(D) and that the land may not become desolate.”

¹¹ They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?^(A) What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? ¹² Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”^(B)

⁵ they spoke against God^(A) and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt^(B) to die in the wilderness?^(C) There is no bread! There is no water!^(D) And we detest this miserable food!”^(E)
