Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob, and hearken unto Israel your father.

¶ Reuben mine eldest son, thou art my [a]might, and the beginning of my strength, [b]the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:

Thou wast light as water: thou shalt not be excellent, because (A)thou wentest up to thy father’s bed: [c]then diddest thou defile my bed, thy dignity is gone.
