⁷ Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.”^(A) So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

¹⁵ for I will give you and your offspring forever all the land that you see.^(A)

⁸ And to you and your future offspring^(A) I will give the land where you are residing—all the land of Canaan—as an eternal possession,^(B) and I will be their God.”

⁷ The Lord, the God of heaven,^(A) who took me from my father’s house and from my native land,^(B) who spoke to me and swore to me, ‘I will give this land to your offspring’^(C)—He will send His angel before you,^(D) and you can take a wife for my son from there.

⁴ I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, I will give your offspring all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed^[a] by your offspring,^(A)

² “Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, it will be allotted to you as an inheritance^[a] with these borders:

⁴ The Lord then said to him, “This is the land I promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’^(A) I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross into it.”

The Lord’s Promises Fulfilled

⁴³ So the Lord gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.

⁵ He didn’t give him an inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, but He promised to give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him,^(A) even though he was childless.
