¹³ Then the Lord said to Abram,^(A) “Know this for certain: Your offspring will be foreigners^(B) in a land that does not belong to them; they will be enslaved and oppressed^[a] 400 years.^{(C) 14} However, I will judge the nation they serve,^(D) and afterward they will go out with many possessions.^{(E) 15} But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a ripe old age.^{(F) 16} In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”^[b](G)

⁶ God spoke in this way:

¹⁷ And I say this: The law, which came 430 years later,^(A) does not revoke a covenant that was previously ratified by God^[a] and cancel the promise.
