¹² Throughout your generations, every male among you at eight days old is to be circumcised.^(A) This includes a slave born in your house and one purchased with money from any foreigner. The one who is not your offspring, ¹³ a slave born in your house, as well as one purchased with money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be marked in your flesh as an everlasting covenant.

⁴ When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him.^(A)

The Circumcision and Presentation of Jesus

²¹ When the eight days were completed for His circumcision,^(A) He was named Jesus^(B)—the name given by the angel before He was conceived.^[a]

⁵ So then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles^(A) among you by the works of the law or by hearing with faith?^[a]

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith^(A) working through love.^(B)

¹⁵ For^[a] both circumcision and uncircumcision^(A) mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.^(B)
