The Garden of Eden

2 Thus the heavens and the earth, and ^(A)all the host of them, were finished. ^2 (B)And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. ³ Then God ^(C)blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

The Sabbath Law

¹² And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹³ “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ^(A)‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who ^(B)sanctifies^[a] you.

The Sabbath

^3 (A)‘Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

²⁷ And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the ^(A)Sabbath.

⁹ There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth^(A)

¹⁶ So He came to ^(B)Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, ^(C)He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

⁵⁶ Then they returned and ^(A)prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath ^(B)according to the commandment.
