¹⁷ So Ephron’s field^(A) at Machpelah near Mamre—the field with its cave and all the trees anywhere within the boundaries of the field—became ¹⁸ Abraham’s possession in the sight of all the Hethites who came to the gate of his city. ¹⁹ After this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field at Machpelah near Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ The field with its cave passed from the Hethites to Abraham^(B) as burial property.

⁹ His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah^(A) near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hethite. ¹⁰ This was the field that Abraham bought from the Hethites.^(B) Abraham was buried there with his wife Sarah.

²⁹ He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people,^(A) old and full of days. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Jacob’s Burial Instructions

²⁹ Then he commanded them, “I am about to be gathered to my people.^(A) Bury me with my ancestors^(B) in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hethite.^{(C) 30} The cave is in the field of Machpelah near Mamre, in the land of Canaan. This is the field Abraham purchased from Ephron the Hethite as burial property.^{(D) 31} Abraham and his wife Sarah are buried there,^(E) Isaac and his wife Rebekah are buried there,^(F) and I buried Leah there.^{(G) 32} The field and the cave in it were purchased from the Hethites.”

⁵ my father made me take an oath,^(A) saying, ‘I am about to die. You must bury me there in the tomb that I made for myself in the land of Canaan.’^(B) Now let me go and bury my father. Then I will return.”

¹³ They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave at Machpelah in the field near Mamre, which Abraham had purchased as burial property from Ephron the Hethite.^(A)

¹⁵ and Jacob went down to Egypt. He and our ancestors died there,^{(A) 16} were carried back to Shechem, and were placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a sum of silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.^(B)
