³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,^[a] saying, “For ^(A)I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”

²⁴ And you said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and ^(A)greatness, and ^(B)we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. This day we have seen God speak with man, and man ^(C)still live.

²² Then Gideon perceived that he was the angel of the Lord. And Gideon said, ^(A)“Alas, O Lord God! For now I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.” ²³ But the Lord said to him, ^(B)“Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die.”

²² And Manoah said to his wife, ^(A)“We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”

⁵ And I said: “Woe is me! ^(A)For I am lost; ^(B)for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the ^(C)King, the Lord of hosts!”

^17 (A)When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But ^(B)he laid his right hand on me, ^(C)saying, “Fear not, ^(D)I am the first and the last,

¹⁰ and they ^(A)saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of ^(B)sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. ¹¹ And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ^(C)ate and drank.
