¹⁷ but Jacob went on to Succoth. He built a house for himself and stalls for his livestock; that is why the place was called Succoth.^[a](A)

The Festival of Booths

¹³ “You are to celebrate the Festival of Booths for seven days when you have gathered in everything from your threshing floor and winepress.^(A)

¹⁶ “All your males are to appear three times a year^(A) before the Lord your God in the place He chooses: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Booths. No one is to appear before the Lord empty-handed.

¹⁰ Moses commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of debt cancellation,^(A) during the Festival of Booths,^(B)

¹⁴ They found written in the law how the Lord had commanded through Moses that the Israelites should dwell in booths during the festival of the seventh month.^{(A) 15} So they proclaimed and spread this news throughout their towns and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the hill country and bring back branches of olive, wild olive, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees to make booths, just as it is written.”^{(B) 16} The people went out, brought back branches, and made booths for themselves on each of their rooftops,^(C) and courtyards, the court of the house of God, the square by the Water Gate,^(D) and the square by the Gate of Ephraim.^{(E) 17} The whole community that had returned from exile^(F) made booths and lived in them. They had not celebrated like this from the days of Joshua son of Nun until that day.^(G) And there was tremendous joy.^(H)
