The Sons of Israel

²² And it came about, while Israel was living in that land, that ^(A)Reuben went and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it.

Now there were twelve sons of Jacob— ^23 (B)the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun; ^24 (C)the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin; ²⁵ and ^(D)the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s female slave, were Dan and Naphtali; ²⁶ and ^(E)the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s female slave, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

Those Who Came to Egypt

⁸ Now these are the ^(A)names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁰ And the ^(B)sons of Simeon: ^[a]Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, ^[b]Jachin, ^[c]Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ And the sons of Levi: ^[d]Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² And the sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the ^(C)sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ And the sons of Issachar: Tola, ^[e]Puvvah, ^[f]Iob, and Shimron. ¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah; ^[g]all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three. ¹⁶ And the ^(D)sons of Gad: ^[h]Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, ^[i]Ezbon, Eri, ^[j]Arodi, and Areli. ¹⁷ And the ^(E)sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. And the ^(F)sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons. ¹⁹ The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. ^20 (G)Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him. ²¹ And the ^(H)sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, ^[k]Ehi, Rosh, ^[l]Muppim, ^[m]Huppim, and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all. ²³ And the sons of Dan: ^[n]Hushim. ²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: ^[o]Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and ^[p]Shillem. ²⁵ These are the ^(I)sons of Bilhah, whom ^(J)Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and she bore these to Jacob; there were seven persons in all.
