² The Lord was with Joseph,^(A) and he became a successful man, serving^[a] in the household of his Egyptian master.

Joseph in Prison

²¹ But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him.^(A) He granted him favor with the prison warden.^(B)

¹⁹ The Lord was with^(A) Judah and enabled them to take possession of the hill country, but they could not drive out^(B) the people who were living in the plain because those people had iron chariots.^(C)

Success of the House of Joseph

²² The house of Joseph also attacked Bethel, and the Lord was with^(A) them.

¹⁸ Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for the Israelites, the Lord was with^(A) him and saved the people from the power of their enemies while the judge was still alive. The Lord was moved to pity whenever they groaned because of those who were oppressing and afflicting them.

¹⁹ Samuel grew.^(A) The Lord was with him,^(B) and he fulfilled everything Samuel prophesied.^[a](C)

¹² Saul was afraid of David,^(A) because the Lord was with David^(B) but had left Saul.^(C)

³⁷ Just as the Lord was with my lord the king,^(A) so may he^[a] be with Solomon and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”^(B)

⁷ The Lord was with him, and wherever he went he prospered.^(A) He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.^(B)
