³² The men are shepherds;^(A) they tend livestock,^(B) and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’^(C)

³⁴ you should answer, ‘Your servants^(A) have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’^(B) Then you will be allowed to settle^(C) in the region of Goshen,^(D) for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.^(E)”

¹⁷ Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue^(A) and watered their flock.^(B)

¹⁹ They answered, “An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
