²⁹ When the time drew near for him to die,^(A) he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh^(B) and promise me that you will deal with me in kindness and faithfulness.^(C) Do not bury me in Egypt.

¹⁴ The men answered her, “We will give our lives for yours. If you don’t report our mission, we will show kindness and faithfulness to you when the Lord gives us the land.”
