⁹ In this ^(A)manner, therefore, pray:

^14 (J)“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But ^(K)if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Fasting to Be Seen Only by God

¹⁶ “Moreover, ^(L)when you fast, do not be like the ^[b]hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. ¹⁷ But you, when you fast, ^(M)anoint your head and wash your face, ¹⁸ so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you ^[c]openly.

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven^(N)

^19 (O)“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; ^20 (P)but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The Lamp of the Body^(Q)

^22 (R)“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is ^[d]good, your whole body will be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is ^[e]bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

You Cannot Serve God and Riches

^24 (S)“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. ^(T)You cannot serve God and ^[f]mammon.

Do Not Worry^(U)

²⁵ “Therefore I say to you, ^(V)do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? ^26 (W)Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? ²⁷ Which of you by worrying can add one ^[g]cubit to his ^[h]stature?

²⁸ “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; ²⁹ and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not ^[i]arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

³¹ “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ³² For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ³³ But ^(X)seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. ³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

¹¹ If you then, ^(A)being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

⁹ Do not call anyone on earth your father; ^(A)for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.

^19 (A)Go ^[a]therefore and ^(B)make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

John Baptizes Jesus^(A)

^9 (B)It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. ^10 (C)And immediately, coming up ^[a]from the water, He saw the heavens ^[b]parting and the Spirit ^(D)descending upon Him like a dove. ¹¹ Then a voice came from heaven, ^(E)“You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

^24 (A)God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁶ For ^(A)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have ^(B)life in Himself,

⁶ Jesus said to him, “I am ^(A)the way, ^(B)the truth, and ^(C)the life. ^(D)No one comes to the Father ^(E)except through Me.

The Father Revealed

^7 (F)“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

⁸ Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

⁹ Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? ^(G)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰ Do you not believe that ^(H)I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you ^(I)I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. ¹¹ Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, ^(J)or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

The Answered Prayer

^12 (K)“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. ^13 (L)And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be ^(M)glorified in the Son.

Jesus Prays for Himself

17 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, ^(A)the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, ^2 (B)as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He ^[a]should give eternal life to as many ^(C)as You have given Him. ³ And ^(D)this is eternal life, that they may know You, ^(E)the only true God, and Jesus Christ ^(F)whom You have sent. ^4 (G)I have glorified You on the earth. ^(H)I have finished the work ^(I)which You have given Me to do. ⁵ And now, O Father, glorify Me together ^[b]with Yourself, with the glory ^(J)which I had with You before the world was.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

^6 (K)“I have ^[c]manifested Your name to the men ^(L)whom You have given Me out of the world. ^(M)They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. ⁷ Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. ⁸ For I have given to them the words ^(N)which You have given Me; and they have received them, ^(O)and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that ^(P)You sent Me.
